LUCIUS MALFOY
NAME: Lucius Alexander Malfoy
ALSO KNOWN AS:
DATE OF BIRTH: August 20, 1954
AGE AT DEATH: late 80s – early 90s (returns looking in his mid-20s)
BLOODLINE: Pureblood
FORMER HOUSE: Slytherin (1972)
AFFILIATION: Former Death Eater; currently undecided
Lucius’s first allegiance is to his family. This goes back to the Final Battle, when he and Narcissa ignored the struggle around them to go searching for their son. The time that the Dark Lord lived under his roof made Lucius resent him, and doubt his sanity, but he’s not about to go out and immerse himself in all things Muggle. He supports the idea of the wizarding world being closed off, but he’s not certain that Voldemort is the one to do it.
MARITAL STATUS: Married
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Narcissa Malfoy nee Black

Name
LUCIUS: Latin, meaning "light"; a popular name in ancient Rome and has been borne by three popes
Expression Number 22: People with this name tend to be a powerful force to all whose lives they touch. They are capable, charismatic leaders who often undertake large endeavors with great success. They value truth, justice, and discipline, and may be quick-tempered with those who do not. If they fail to develop their potential, they may become impractical and rigid.
ALEXANDER: Greek, meaning "defender of men"; anglicised version of the Greek name Alexandros; Alexander appears in the Bible as the one who helps Jesus bear the cross on the journey to Calvary; Alexander the Great was an ancient Macedon king – Greece was unified by his father, Philip II, but Alexander went on to extend the Macedon empire eastwards to the periphery of modern India.
Expression Number 3: People with this name tend to be creative and excellent at expressing themselves. They are drawn to the arts, and often enjoy life immensely. They are often the center of attention, and enjoy careers that put them in the limelight. They tend to become involved in many different activities, and are sometimes reckless with both their energies and with money.

Magic
WAND: His original wand was 11", elm, dragon heartstring, but it was taken by Voldemort and later destroyed. His temporary wand was a spare kept at the Manor and a foreign wandmaker eventually crafted a new wand for him of the same length and wood, but the heartstring core is from a different breed of dragon.
ELM TREE (the Noble-mindedness): pleasant shape, tasteful clothes, modest demands, tends not to forgive mistakes, cheerful, likes to lead but not to obey, honest and faithful partner, likes making decisions for others, noble-minded, generous, good sense of humor, practical.
PATRONUS:
BOGGART: An empty Pensieve, which harkens back to his fears in Azkaban that the Dementors would return to Ministry employ and his good memories would be lost or irrevocably altered by the experience
STRENGTHS: ; wide knowledge and talent in the Dark Arts; skilled dueler
WEAKNESSES:
CREATURES:

Outward
HEIGHT: 6'1"
WEIGHT: 165, at present
HAIR COLOUR: White-blonde
EYE COLOUR: Grey
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: His Dark Mark, of course, which has apparently remained to some degree, a faint but long scar on his right arm near his bicep from a wound received while dueling on a raid, a more noticeable scar on his shoulder from where he was showing off at Quidditch and fell off his broom and several small scars from several situations (his time as a Death Eater, as a Keeper and during private dueling events for sport)
APPEARANCE: Lucius is getting used to his new, younger body. It is lacking many of the scars that he bore in his later life, scars hard won in battle as well as scars inflicted on him during Voldemort’s stay in his home, but there are still a few from his first few years as a Death Eater. He’s a relatively tall man with a very large sense of confidence about him so that he seems an even bigger, more imposing force than he really is. Though one day he would be defined by his long, white blonde hair, as a young man his hair was more closely cut. It normally is kept short and is never allowed to look shabby or unkempt. In fact, Lucius isn’t unkempt in any way. He dresses in the finest clothing, is immaculate in his appearance from head to toe, and always makes it a point to appear at the top of his game. He favors expensive, rich fabrics that are soft to the touch as well as visually pleasing, and is quite comfortable in formal attire.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
PERSONALITY: It all depends on whether Lucius thinks he’s talking to an equal or an underling. Lucius considers no one to be above him or his family, which is perhaps his greatest snobbery, though he can on occasion appear to be humble if it suits his motives. With family and a few who he trusts, Lucius can be cordial and caring and even humorous from time to time. However, Lucius can also be quite manipulative, and a great snob, if he thinks someone is beneath him. Before Azkaban he was especially prone to temperamental outbursts (after all, this is the same man who got into a heated argument with Arthur Weasley right in the middle of a bookstore) and the occasional impulsive decisions. After Azkaban this was tempered a bit, in a desire to keep the peace necessary for his family to enjoy a second golden era of sorts, but he still remained determinedly set in his ways.

He views the old traditions, the way that he was raised and the way that he raised his son, to be the very best. He never would give in to Mudbloods or blood traitors. He never did fell the desire to go out to Muggle London to buy a television. Lucius might be viewed by some as some sort of archaic example of the “old” era, but that’s fine with him. He’s a strong man, prone to being arrogant and temperamental even now, but he is a man, not someone afraid to stand up for the things he believes in. He is the result of generations of good wizarding breeding and he is proud of who he is. It is that pride that made the disdainful stares of people after the war tolerable, because he had the secret satisfaction of thinking that, after everything, his family would succeed.

CHILDHOOD HOME: Wiltshire, England
HISTORY: Lucius was the quintessential Malfoy heir. Born to Abraxas and Adena Malfoy, Lucius’s childhood was full of all the spoiling that an only child typically experiences, heightened because his family thought that they deserved the best of everything. He was brought up by his stern father and spoiled by his sometimes distant socialite mother, but never for a moment did Lucius feel deprived. He was taught from his earliest days that he was being trained to be the heir to a long and prestigious line, and that he would one day hold his father’s place at the helm of a very powerful, respected family.

Lucius excelled at Hogwarts, aided by his intelligence as well as the need he felt to be the best, to live up to the Malfoy name. Slytherin was a natural house for him and it taught him how to excel without forcing things on him that would, in his opinion, hinder him like rash, unthoughtful bravery or mindless acceptance or wasting an excess of time with one’s nose stuck in a book. Though he excelled at many things, he was also quick to write off the things that he wasn’t talented at. For example, he tried Divination once before scowling down at his tea leaves and announcing rather loudly to his whole section of the room that the entire art was rubbish. It became something of a running joke throughout the year between him and his fellow Slytherins, teasing about the things they might have seen in their tea that morning. Because of this he often seemed to be the most intelligent student, the most well rounded, a skilled prefect, a remarkable Keeper on the Quidditch field, the best everything, and few people took the energy to realize that this was only accomplished by honing his skills or his talents alone.

While in Hogwarts, Lucius began to think seriously about his future, and, like many young people of good breeding in that era, became swayed by Voldemort. He took the Mark shortly after he left school at his father’s encouragement, expecting that it would bring even more prestige to his family name one day and that he would make the world a better place, or at least his corner of it. He didn’t want to have to stumble over Muggles, to worry about a future heir deciding to marry some filthy little thing with all the magic of a dusty old rug. He thought that he would make a difference.

After Hogwarts, Lucius set out to find a wife. It was imperative, he knew, to marry someone of similarly good breeding, to find someone to give the Malfoy family an heir, but for the life of him he couldn’t seem to decide on who. There were girls, pretty things he toyed with when he was in school, ones who amused him, ones who he enjoyed for company, ones who he tolerated for one reason or another. The problem was finding one woman who would be enough to satisfy him for the remainder of his life. Lucius had no idea what he was looking for, only that he had yet to find it.

And then he found it, he found her. Found might not be the accurate word, as he had known Narcissa Black for his entire life, but one day he saw her differently, and he knew that she, and she alone, would do. The years that they had spent antagonizing one another in Hogwarts didn’t matter anymore, the other girls who he had toyed with before her didn’t matter anymore. Suddenly it was very clear that Narcissa Black was the only woman who would do and all others were inferior.
However, Lucius had never been taught to express love, or even really recognize it when he stumbled across it. The process of wooing Narcissa was, therefore, more complicated, as he tried to persuade her with presents and surprises that he would be an agreeable husband. He never thought that had he found the words for the way his chest tightened whenever he caught sight of her and had he only been able to force out one small ‘I love you,’ the process might have gone much more smoothly. Somehow he succeeded, though he never knew just how, and she accepted his proposal.

After a lavish wedding that beat even his expectations, he and Narcissa started their lives together. Their first few years were a passionate blur, accented with fights and making up and repeating the cycle all over again. Thrown into the mix was Lucius’s growing role in Voldemort’s Death Eater army, as he was frequently called out in the middle of the night to go rain down destruction on some unsuspecting village or town. He began to feel like a grown man as well, finding his own way, supporting a wife and rising steadily through the Death Eaters to gain more and more of Voldemort’s trust. It all seemed to be progressing so well.

When Narcissa discovered that she was with child, it was as though everything were falling into place at last. During that time Lucius felt joy and pride, but then the world fell to pieces. The losses of Cygnus, Regulus, and Orion Black was too much for Narcissa. The baby was gone.

Though the loss of his child rocked Lucius to the core, he was determined that he and Narcissa and he would recover. In trying to help heal the pain that they both felt, Lucius was surprised to find that some of the boundaries that he had put between him and Narcissa came tumbling down, and they were closer than ever.

On June 5, 1980, Lucius’s world changed and he became a father at last. Though Lucius had barely been able to breathe throughout the entire second pregnancy, worried that if he let his guard down for a mere moment something awful would happen, Draco Malfoy was born alive and well, despite the complications of a slightly early and more strenuous birth than anyone had anticipated. Lucius had no idea of how to be a father, merely that it was expected, so he swung rather like a pendulum at times, being too strict on occasion and far too doting on others, but he loved his son and though he demonstrated it in unconventional means, like in later years going on to buy the entire Quidditch team new brooms, he liked to think that Draco knew it.

When Voldemort fell it was a quiet, unexpected relief that Lucius felt. He had no taste for raids, not seeing the point of going out and slaughtering at random. He didn’t think that he, Lucius Malfoy, should even be obligated to such things to begin with and he feared that if Voldemort persisted things might go on to involve Narcissa and Draco. That was unacceptable. Though he had planned on spending a few years in Azkaban and coming out a free man (he was quite idealistic in those days, Dementors might be able to break the soul of lesser men but not Lucius Malfoy, he was determined) it was Narcissa who persuaded him to say he had been under the Imperius. Feeling that he was taking the coward’s way out, Lucius knew that she was right. The two sides of the war might not agree on much, but they did agree that Lucius Malfoy was a coward for shirking out of his prison sentence, but at least he was free.

He saw his son grow and get the finest of everything and was able to spend time with his wife and he even gained a bit of his prestige back. Though the whispers and looks that people gave him still irritated him, it was clear that he had gained far more. He argued quite fervently with Narcissa about Draco’s school. He wanted the boy to go to Durmstrang, both because of its reputation as well as for its remoteness. He thought it would be best to get Draco out of the country, so that when he graduated there would be a possibility to stay there, perhaps under anyone's radar, for the beginning whispers of something amiss had started. After a long, heated argument, however, Narcissa convinced him to send Draco to Hogwarts, where he would be closer.

Voldemort’s return had been unexpected and brought the end of the golden era of Lucius’s life. He knew he might well need to convince his Lord that he had done what he had done to better them all, and had to do things that he would rather not do, such as when he had to plant the diary on the Weasley girl. He had thought the move too risky, too open to failure, and he knew that if it did indeed fail he would, in some way, be held accountable, but no one asked his opinion. Voldemort hadn't even been in the business of asking people to do things, he spoke and expected his word to be obeyed as law – even if the order had been from years ago and had been highly unspecific as to why he would do such a thing, Lucius knew this was the time planned for and he also knew that, while Voldemort did not yet have the power to punish, he soon might.

The diary incident was just the start of heightened responsibility and danger for Lucius and his family. Going to retrieve the prophecy with the Potter boy cost him far more dearly, however. He was not only unsuccessful, he was also caught and tossed into Azkaban, a place that was frightening and harsh enough to break a man even without the Dementors, but Lucius was determined not to be broken. While he was in Azkaban (he was never sure exactly how long it was, as the days sometimes melted seamlessly together and sometimes one day would drag by for what seemed like a year) Lucius suffered dearly for pleading the way he had to escape Azkaban the first time. The guards taunted him, telling him news of the outside that he was never certain to be true. Often he thought that they were making up horrible, outlandish stories about his wife and son just to make him more miserable. The other prisoners, with what little contact he was allowed with them, weren’t exactly friendly either. They too remembered Lucius playing the coward during the first war, and mad or not they weren’t going to let him forget.

Voldemort “rescued” him and a few others one night, throwing Lucius straight from the frying pan into the fire. Lucius was home, with his family, but he was far from safe. Draco, it seemed, was on the run after attempting to murder Dumbledore, and Lucius’s own home was turned into Voldemort’s hiding hole. Lucius and his family suffered dearly during that time, with Voldemort exacting his anger on them. It was clear that things were unraveling, and Lucius was torn between hoping that the Dark Lord would win so that life would return to a bit of normalcy and his family would hope to recover what was lost, and hoping that he would lose so that Lucius could just take his punishment from the Ministry and not have to worry about Draco and Narcissa getting tortured with hexes anymore.

In the end, it was his own wife’s lie that was the Dark Lord’s undoing. When she lied and said that the Potter boy was dead, it opened the Dark Lord up to Harry’s surprise, but Lucius didn’t care about that or even the Dark Lord anymore. He was tired, and, like someone fleeing a sinking ship, he only wanted to have his family with him, to ensure the three of them were safe. That was all that mattered. He and Narcissa didn’t bother fighting in the last battle, instead they went searching for their son, and when they found him, when they ensured that Draco was alright, Lucius knew that the battle was truly over.

He had been wrong. Though Narcissa’s help of the Potter boy had ensured his freedom, he was no longer allowed the prestige that he once was. He was looked on as a comic figure and an antiquated stereotype from the past; on his worst days he thought that people looked on him as Harry Potter’s personal charity case. It was because of this that the years after the war didn’t seem anywhere near as prosperous to him as the years between the two wars, but they were not entirely bad. He was able to see his son grow up and become a man, for though Lucius’s own life might have been spent fighting and serving, Draco was still young when the war ended and had his whole life ahead of him. He watched with pride as Draco found Astoria Greengrass, married her and eventually produced Scorpius. It might not be the life he had imagined for himself, to be saved from prison by Harry Potter, but he was determined to live it as best as he could.

Losing his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson in so short a time had not been planned, however. Though there was a great grandchild to ensure that the Malfoy line would not die out, Lucius was in shock. Children, he thought, were not supposed to die before their grandparents, and certainly not grandchildren! Disgusted at the turn his life had taken, with the fact that even now, after the war, his son and grandson were not allowed to live until old age, Lucius aged quickly. While he had never quite looked the same after Azkaban, Lucius had never really looked his age until he lost Draco and Scorpius. He didn’t want to leave his Cissa, at least not consciously, as she had been a constant in his life. He had always imagined (on the rare occasion when he was morbid enough to think of such things) that they would die at ridiculously old ages side by side, slipping into the same dream of their youth and lingering there forever. This was just another thing that was not supposed to happen.

And yet it did. One night, while lying next to his wife, Lucius fell asleep and did not wake up.
FAMILY:
Parents: Abraxas Malfoy – father, d.1988;
Lucius’s father was his role model for what a pureblood should be and so Lucius wanted to be exactly like him. As he grew, his opinion began to differ from his father’s slightly, but Lucius still looks up to the way that his father was able to be such a strong, commanding patriarch.
Adena Malfoy – mother, d.197x;
Lucius’s mother was someone that Lucius always set on a pedestal. He admired her, told her what he wanted when he was a boy, and wanted always to keep her safe. She had a delicate, doll like quality to her that fascinated Lucius, and though he would never rely on her for large problems, as though doing so would bow her small frame under the weight of his worry, he never loved her less for it.
Spouse: Narcissa Black Malfoy – wife, m.1977;
Lucius’s wife and equal in all things. He loves her deeply, even if he does not always express it well, and even now he could not be happier that he chose her to be his bride years ago. He admires her, for the way she helped raise their child, for the way that she fought to hold their family together when he was in prison, for a great many things, but, more than that, for being the one woman who could have ever inspired him to grow to genuinely love her.
Children: Draco Malfoy – son, b.1980;
As his heir and only child, Draco is Lucius’s pride, his prize, his everything. Though sometimes he wonders if he was alternately too strict or too lenient with the boy, he is proud of the way that his son turned out.
Astoria Greengrass Malfoy – daughter-in-law;
While proud of his son’s choice of a wife, Lucius was at first unsure of how to handle Astoria. He had had no daughters, so he had no frame of reference for how to treat one, particularly a daughter-in-law. However, as the years passed Lucius became rather fond of Astoria, and he was pleased with her and Draco for raising a fine son in Scorpius.
Grandchildren: Scorpius Malfoy – grandson, b. 2006;
A grandchild is a luxury that at times Lucius never thought that he would have, but when he held his newborn grandson he knew the world had finally righted itself. In Scorpius, Lucius was certain the Malfoys would finally find their true golden era, a generation would finally be able to grow and flourish without worrying about war and prison.
Extended family: Bellatrix Black Lestrange – sister-in-law; Rodolphus Lestrange – brother-in-law; Andromeda Black Tonks – sister-in-law; Ted Tonks – brother-in-law; Nymphadora Tonks Lupin – niece; the extended Black family
FRIENDS: Lucius did not have the luxury of friends in the past after the second war, but among those he could call friend before were Severus Snape, TBC.
ENEMIES: For his actions during the war, despite the pardon granted him by the Ministry, most are considered Lucius' enemies, mild or otherwise. TBC
PAST RELATIONSHIPS: None of any significance, mostly women to be entertaining in his youth before he focused solely on Narcissa.
HOME: A manor home in Wiltshire

Astrological
Slytherin Leo
Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac and rules the back, the spine, and the heart. Positive traits include creativity, charisma, generosity, warmth, enthusiasm, a natural talent for leadership, and a great deal of inner power; negative traits are haughtiness, snobbery, an expectation that one is the centre of attention and should be waited on by everyone else, profligacy, lack of realism, dominance that can lead to bullying, and a refusal to change one's mind even in the face of solid facts.

Slytherin Leos can be either very good, or very bad. At their best, they exemplify all that "nobility" is made of: confidence, openness, charm, initiative, generosity of spirit, wisdom, judgment, and poise. At their worst, they become elitist, bullying bigots. How they end up depends on the company they keep, and how they are encouraged to act early in life. Either way, they never lack attention - it's hard to ignore a Slytherin born under this sign. These Slytherins usually end up in positions of responsibility and leadership, because of their charisma and natural ability. Their creativity and drive also makes them very resourceful.
